Flying Away to a Better Place

Have you ever looked closely at a bird flying away? The mechanics, the flight, the majestic beauty, it is really something to behold. I was lucky to have snapped two birds flying away from me recently, one heron and one hawk.

My old camera and its not-so-good lens don't always focus at the right moment, which can be frustrating because you leave so many shots behind. If I had a penny for every shot which I have lost over the years, I would be rich by now. Alas, sometimes it just works! In this case, it focused on the hawk beautifully as it flew over my head.

How I wished it found a fish in the dam below me, but that did not happen. My luck was not there that day.

But whilst looking down, I saw a beautiful heron that also flew away. It is really majestic to look at these big birds fly so elegantly. It is as if it does not take too much power to take off and fly away. How I wish sometimes that I could fly like that.

Elegantly, it flew over the vineyards to a better place. If we humans could fly, I think we would have been able to fly to better places. We could escape our current situation and just fly to a better place. Wishful thinking at best.

And then they were away. As if my camera also said, "so long for now". It did not focus super well, but it is still okay I guess.

And so they are gone, hopefully at a better place. I hope that you enjoyed these birds midflight. It really makes one appreciate their beauty and the importance of our part in the bigger scheme of things. We need to keep these animals safe.

All of the images are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and Tamron 300mm zoom lens. The musings are also my own. I hope you are well; happy photographing and stay safe!
