There's been talk of Vasiliy Lomachenko coming back to the ring in October. Hi-Tech is (16-2, 11 KO) and the former undisputed lightweight champion. He lost his belts to Teofimo Lopez in 2020 in an unfortunate match. He last saw action against Richard Commey in December of 2021, in what was a victory for the Ukranian.
We don't know who he'll fight next. It probably won't be a title shot since Devin Haney has a rematch to honor against George Kambosos Junior. There's no other reason for the rematch accept it was in the contract. Kambosos had every advantage you could think of in a fight. He was coming off a brilliant victory over Teofimo Lopez, and he was the home town favorite in his native Australia. Yet, he was completely outmatched by Haney.
Hopefully Loma will take on the winner of the Haney/Kambosos rematch. Then we'll possibly see a match against the survivor of the Haney/Kambosos/Lomechenko triangle and Gervonta "Tank" Davis.
Loma in my opinion is still the best boxer in the lightweight division. The only problem is, the aging 34 year old is in a division filled with 20 something year old killers.
The Ukranian boxer has also been busy defending his country against the Russians. We'll see soon enough what kind of effect the war has had on him. Regardless of how he does I will always remain one of his fans.
