Not as Smart as I Look

Hopefully, if you are the betting sort of person, you didn't listen to a thing I said last weekend. Shy of maybe one or two games, pretty much all the games that I thought would be close were anything but.

The sole game that I know for sure I won some money on this past weekend was the USC/Michigan game and it was very hard for me to cheer for Michigan, but I ended up winning something like $4. I was going to be on the Ohio State Under since it was something like 50.5 and I really should have taken that bet. I guess I am not as smart as I look after all!

Despite my horrible betting record, there were still some really good games this past weekend. If you go back and look, you will see that I told you the Illinois/Nebraska game was going to be good. Unfortunately, the overtime loss by the Cornhuskers has pushed them out of the top 25. I wouldn't be surprised if they make their way back at some point. They just need one big win in Big 10 play.

Michigan had a tight game against USC, and it wasn't until late in the game that the outcome was determined. It was actually a pretty exciting game if you are into that sort of thing. Even though I don't particularly care for either of the teams, I can appreciate a good game when I see one.

I should point out that the Utah/Oklahoma State game was pretty close. I said it would be a good game didn't I? Most of the other games I said could be good games were blow outs.

Case in point, the BYU game that I said could be close. It wasn't. The Tennessee/Oklahoma game was kind of close though, so I wasn't all wrong there. I think I did bet on Oklahoma to win though!

Probably the biggest news of the day was Vanderbilt taking #11 Missouri into double overtime. Vandy ended up losing, but that's still pretty impressive for an unranked team versus a #11 team.

Actually, they were probably ranked higher than that since the new rankings came out already.

The Buffalo/Northern Illinois game went into overtime as well and Buffalo came out on top. Thus bumping NIU out of the top 25.

Finally, Michigan State had a heartbreaking loss to Boston College. It really shouldn't have went that way. They basically beat themselves if you ask me. Yet again they were plagued with stupid penalties and undisciplined play.

I think most people thought they would probably loss this game, but there was a small glimmer of hope that they might come away with the win. Alas, it wasn't meant to be...

It doesn't get any easier for them after this. I just hope they can get a stunning upset victory early in the season to still have a chance at maybe making it to a bowl game. At 3-1, anything is possible right now.
