Hello hello my dear hivers. Today I want to share with you another of my adventures in the world of Geology. In this case, we will move to the Cayo Guam River in the municipality of Moa.
The Guam Cay River is one of the largest river systems in Moa, and the one with the highest flow. The ferocity of its current is due to the abundant rainfall from which it feeds, in a basin that is more than 30 kilometers long.
The river runs through a mountainous area cutting different types of rocks, which turns its sand banks into a place of obligatory analysis for a geologist who begins to train in field work. I take this opportunity to say that anyone who does not love nature will hardly be able to be a good geologist.
Returning to the river, with its crystal clear waters, and surrounded by an almost unaltered tropical jungle landscape, it is undoubtedly a must-visit place.

In Geology, a river is of extreme importance. Due to its dragging power, the river brings with its waters fragments of the rocks that it cuts in its channel, therefore, it is not surprising that rivers are used in geological exploration to search for mineral deposits. Guam Cay is no exception; along its course it cuts rocks rich in chromite, which is a black mineral that contains chromium. These fragments of chromite, which are admired by bathers as something curious, were what attracted North American geologists last century, who discovered and exploited the Chromium deposits of Guam Cay for several years. This card participated in the Second World War.

Sadly, the river also has sad stories. Floodwaters are common, and from time to time, someone gets trapped on the opposite bank. Additionally, the currents are treacherous and at least two or three lives are lost to drowning each year. The river has, to its credit, dozens of deaths.
Even so, it is one of the places preferred by the population to recreate, and I think it is a beautiful place in our geography.
If you've made it this far, I just hope you enjoyed the photos, I thank you for reading and I'll wait for you at another appointment with some point of geological interest.
