Hail dear Steemians, Vikings, Demsels, Knights, Fairies and Wizards
Since I am a child I am absolutely fascintaed with magical things and creatures, Middle Ages and Vikings. I read books with old Northern Sagas, went to folk concerts and visited some medieval festivals.
A very special treasure to my fairytale heart is the "MPS" festival. The abbreviation stands for "Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spektakulum" which means Middle Ages Fantasy Spactacle in English. It is the world's biggest touring medieval culture festival travelling through whole Germany every year.
Tradesmen offer you the most impressive historic juwelery. Stunning Knights, Vikings, Fairies, Celtic Tribes, Wizards, Dragons and Damsels invite you into a world full of magic, medieval vibes and the feeling of travelling back in time. Gleemen, falconers, jesters and fire-breathers leave everyone in an awe. Celtic, medieval, nordic and historic bands and musicians make your feet dance, your heart jump and your soul dream of ancient times. Countless stalls lure you with the amazing smell of filled round flat breads, meat skewers, medieval sweets and specialities, a lot of different meads, Viking beers and wine.
Everyone dances, laughs, dreams, sings, enjoys, watches epic sword battles, buys the most breathtaking dresses and clothes you'll see in a long time and feels free to express him or herself just the way they want.
The atmosphere is not only authentic, historic and magical, but also a lot of fun, freedom and the chance to be whoever you want to be for that day. No matter if you want to be a Knight, a pirate, a Viking, a unicorn, a fairy or an Orc.
Everyone is welcome, everyone is part of this event and everyone is so happy and liberated from modern life which leaves no space for dreaming and fantasy way too often.
It is perfect for:
- Daydreamers
- Middle Ages, Vikings, Celts, and Fantasy lovers
- People who refuse to grow up
- Children
- People who want to be someone else just for one day / a couple days
- Freespirits
- History fans
- Poets, artists and those who love to get inspired
- The ones that love extremely yummy and versatile food, merchandise, amazing shows and medieval music
- Open minded people
- Everyone else ;)
This year the "MPS" event series celebrates its 25th anniversary. So I grabbed my Viking dress that I have worn on my Nordic/Celtic wedding and visited the colourful, vivid and fantastic festival last Saturday in Bad Säckingen in Germany.
My brother, his wife and my little nephew invited me to come with them and we had the best day I can imagine!
I visited it several times before, but never in this town. The location is pretty small regarding the other ones where it takes place, but it is one of the most beautiful ones. It takes place in the park of the castle in Bad Säckingen and matches simply perfectly well with the festivals' atmosphere.
Here you can see me in my dress with my brothers' Viking axe and super awesome selfmade shield:
Let's travel time together and meet Captain Jack Sparrow - Are you ready?
Bad Säckingen is located right at the border to Switzerland on to the river Rhine
When we arrived we instantly disvovered some impressive historic architecture to admire
The Castle of Bad Säckingen in the middle of the festival location made us say "Wooow!"
And invited us to join all the colourful people in its park
So many interesting, historic stalls to buy curious, beautiful, impressive and magical things from the tradesmen
And many, many brilliant medieval bands and musicians who made everyone move, dance, happy and dream
Like the powerful, energetic and amazing group "Cultus Ferox" who make it impossible to stand still and not dance like nobody's watching
We even saw some epic battles...
And met Captain Jack Sparrow and his friend!
We stayed until it got dark as it was such a beautiful festival and day that we just didn't want to go home. But after walking and dancing in the sun all day long and being full of countless precious and beautiful impressions and moments that will forever belong to our most beautiful memories, we had to leave at 9:30 p.m. . But before we did so, we enjoyed an enchanting sunset and the fairytale looking atmosphere of the festival in the dawn
