Medicinal Plants and Some of Their Uses #2

Nature seems to have blessed us with cure to varieties of illness and diseases we encounter in our daily lives. Its just that many of us pay little or no attention to those gifts from mother nature.

It was once said that there is no diseases that does not have its cure embedded in a particular plant or herb, though may still be undiscovered.

In this post, i will share with you another medicinal plant and few of its health usages.
ACALYPHA INDICA L.

Common names:
Indian acalypha, orielle de chatte, three-sided mercury, herbe chatte.
Genesis and where found:

  • They can be found in the eastern parts of Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, southern part of Africa.
  • The are also distributed in islands of the Indian ocean, sout east asia and oceania.

Uses

  • The leaves when grounded into powder can be used in healing maggot infested wounds.
  • The leaf decoction can serve as balm in treating joint pains.
  • Infusion of the leaves is good in treating asthma.
  • Taking in the decoction also helps in cleaning the liver and kidney.
  • Decoction of the root can be used in treating intestinal worms and stomach aches.
  • When the leaf infusion mixed together with a tuber infusion of Jumellea fragnans plus honey is consumed, it treats bronchitis.
  • The leaves are also cooked as vegetables in some parts of Africa.
