Hey guys, for this week I'm gonna be doing a series on contraception. I know when you think about this you think mostly premarital sex, but in the real sense it's more important for the married folks as regards family planning. Some may even take it a step further to say you can determine the sex of your baby through careful planning... Oh well... Let's leave that for the Q & A session...
The first method of contraception I want to talk about is that of abstinence. This is by far the safest mode of contraception but my gosh it's the hardest to use cos as my people will say 'body no be firewood' lol
A second cost free mode of contraception is that called selective abstinence. Here you have to know your cycle length and when you ovulate and I'm going to be teaching you how to calculate this quite simply.
Firstly, a cycle is the period between the 1st day of your period and the 1st day of your next period.
Now, how do you know when you are supposed to be ovulating? Simple! Say you have a steady cycle of 30 days, all you have to do is subtract 14 from 30 which gives you 16, hence it can be said that you will ovulate on the 16th day of your cycle... Now why 14 days? The answer is simple, it's because it takes 14days between ovulation and the start of the next period, I will not bore you with the details in between.
Now here comes the contraception part of the gist, the male sperm can stay viable in a woman for up to 4-5 days maximum and the female ova can stay just maximum of 2-3 days before loosing its viability. So that is 5+3 = 8days maximum window for conception within the whole cycle and this 8 days ideally is around your ovulation period. So let's say you ovulate on the 16th day, your window of fertility will fall between the 11th day and the 19th day of your cycle. So within these days, you will want to avoid sex completely.
Now all you need for this is a Callender which you can monitor by your self and also this will help you notice subtle changes in your body that may have gone unnoticed. Now please note that contraception methods are usually used in combination because no one method is 100% effective except for abstinence of course, lol. Now reversing this taught train, it can be said that if you want to get pregnant, this 8 days is the perfect period to get busy (if you know what I mean). So based on this information today, I hope we are one step closer to avoiding that unplanned pregnancy and having wonderful and healthy delivery timing and intervals.
I will stop here for now guys, I hope this article was helpful, please feel free to drop your questions and I will most definitely get back to you.
With love..
