This is my entry into this week's Greenest Thumb Contest!
I grow a small garden on my balcony as I live in an apartment, and this year was the first time I tried my hand at growing Hatch Chiles. I'm always buying them in a can to put in my enchiladas, so I thought I should grow my own.
All summer they seemed happy but slow-growing. I presume this is because they wanted more sun - my balcony is not the sunniest despite being south-facing, due to its walls being solid and there being other tall apartment/condo buildings (and a tree or two) all around. I read that they liked the extra hot weather, and when they did not bloom then, I despaired that I would get any chiles.
They decided October was the right time to bloom.
It's supposed to start snowing overnight tonight!
I'm not certain if I should chance covering them or bring them in and try for chiles in my dining room nook. Any advice?
