Genetically modified Crops are grown in only 28 countries and banned in 38 nations as at 2016; some other countries restrict GMO products until they pass necessary regulatory standards. According to data obtained from the Genetic literacy project twenty eight European Union nations blocked the cultivation of new GMOs within their borders in 2015, while Russian issued a ban on both cultivation and imports. However it's interesting to note that most of the nations that prohibit GMO cultivation allow GMO products to be imported, particularly animal feed, for example the EU nations import 30 million tons of GM grain annually.
