It's a pity that the premiere of the game Stairs slipped by without much echo. As a reminder: the game was released in 2015 ( but the last update from February this year ) by the Swedish independent developer GreyLight Entertainment. It is a horror movie that combines well known ideas from other games, but by the performance and use of these borrowings has great potential.
As Christopher Adams, a journalist, we try to solve the mystery of the disappearance of three people. In the course of our adventure we travel through semi-open locations (abandoned warehouse, mine, campsite) where missing persons were seen for the last time in order to find any information.
The game uses the schemes that you have encountered more than once. (Pneumbra , Amnesia) to move the plot forward you need to find the codes, solve some puzzle. (Outlast , Alien Isolation ) to go through the location you need to unlock the passage to which the key / switch is somewhere hidden and guards it usually ''guard'''. (DreadOut) by taking pictures we discover transitions invisible normally.
This is not a production minus, because well used solutions always work. The atmosphere in the game is dense, dark and mysterious due to ghosts appearing here and there. The advantage is that the game frightens the climate, not the tired jumpsceers. Initially, the game allows us to feel safe, to the extent that we will be afraid of shadows or suspicious sounds. Of course, this state will not last throughout the game, when playing you will hear the female singing will be too late to rescue :) . And here appears probably the first and only minus of this production - when the phantom tracking you has no way to escape, will find you everywhere, despite the fact that our character moves faster and locations such as the warehouse is extensive and full of places to hide.
Graphically it's really good for an indie game (Unreal Engine 3). I played very well if you like games that are a combination of horror and puzzles I highly recommend .
To buy on the Steam platform
