holoz0r's A-Z of Steam: Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now

Nostalgia does not help all old games feel as good as they once did. Carmageddon is a series that is blessed with positive nostalgia, the likes of which have floated in my mind the same way in which an automobile crashed into a lake does - not very well - when applied to a modern attempt at enjoyment.

This release gets classic 4:3 visuals, (which is fine) - no x-input support (which is disappointing) - which leads to the biggest criticism.

Controls. Turning sucks. Accelerating sucks. Braking sucks. Everything you try to do sucks. That's because the controls, response rate, and frame rates just don't match up, and I really can't be bothered doing a custom configuration of DOSBOX just to get it all running for a product that I purcahsed however long ago it might have been, that I can't remember.

What I do remember is the incredible feeling of "perfection" that this game used to have on older hardware.

None of those feelings were surfaced playing the Steam version of this title, leading to another short play session, and an even shorter review. The best part about this game was loading it up and seeing the classic 3DFX logo. Seriously.

There's only so much that nostalgia can do!
