Ever since YouTube started hiding my posts from subscribers, such as free code giveaways, I've been looking for a new platform. Steemit has been a pretty good motivator to continue making videos, thanks to the engagement I receive in the comments, but I've been holding off using Dtube because I want to wait until they're watchable in 1080p.
The NES MEGAMIX has developed into an archive of sorts. The more research I put into each game the more errors and missing info I find in other databases. Everything from cheat codes to staff credits to general information. I don't blame them-- there's a lot of confusion as to who did what with each game, which is one of the reasons I like to use the term "musical artist" instead of composer, arranger, sound programmer, or whatever.
For those curious, a composer generally writes the melody and sometimes the percussion of the game. The sound driver is responsible for programming the way notes create sound, which is used to produce pleasant tones, so they play a large role in the overall mood of the soundtrack. Sometimes the music was originally composed on another system, or is just a traditional tune, so they need to adapt it to the NES by interpreting the song and arranging it for the Nintendo's sound chip capabilities.
Not all NES MEGAMIXes are created the same. Sometimes I have to go into the code and hex-edit my inventory or status in order to reach far-off areas that would normally take 40+ hours to reach. I need to build these videos as efficiently as possible so I have to think about how to approach each game before I start capturing in order to not waste any time. If I determine that the game takes more than an hour or so to capture all of the necessary footage, then I look for workarounds in order to expedite the process.
The 50th NES MEGAMIX is coming up next week, and I wanted to take some time to reflect on what I've been doing. At some point, Dtube will enable 1080p and buffering time will drop. When this occurs, I will start archiving each of these games will full write-ups and improvements to each video. This is where you come in. If you know any interesting info about any of the games already MEGAMIXed, don't hestitate to drop a comment. I want as many interesting tidbits of info as possible. So if you know something cool about any of these titles I'll be happy to add it when it comes time to publish the NES MEGAMIX on Dtube. Really looking forward to hearing your feedback.
