Black Ops 4's battle royale mode "Blackout" will be free-to-play for the rest of the month.
The free period will last until April 30 and can be accessed on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. This is the second time that we've seen this mode available for free but in addition to the original Blackout map, players will be able to try out the newly released Alcatraz map as well.
Access to Alcatraz
Thanks to the new map's smaller size, gameplay will be focused more heavily on close quarters combat. Therefore, players will be dealing with the heart pumping action and thrill of the fight throughout the majority of matches. Unfortunately the new Alcatraz map is only available to PS4 players at the moment but it will be coming to Xbox One and PC sometime in the future.
During the free period, new Blackout players will be able to play in solos, duos, or with a whole squad. But if you decide to continue playing after the free trial, you will need to upgrade to the game's full version. Luckily, all the progress you make during the trial will be transferred if you choose to upgrade.
It looks like Treyarch is trying to garner some attention towards its latest updates and a whole free month of Blackout could really bring some new players into the mix. While the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends seem to take up the lion's share in the battle royale genre, Blackout's Alcatraz map looks to add some new tactics and strategies to a genre which can sometimes be filled with long moments lacking in action.
