The Addams Family already appeared on the SNES system. Gomez has to save his family in this Jump & Run.
The Addams Family
The SNES version
The developer Ocean Software developed the game, which was released for various platforms. These include z. NES and the Sega systems.
The plot
Gomez has to save his family. In Addams Family's mansion, you'll cross the spooky building and the surrounding area, seeking out your captive family members to save them. Not only you, but also the stolen family fortune you have to hool back. You have to stop a ghastly leprechaun, a mad scientist and a witch.
The Levels
Not only do you roam the mansion with Gomez. From the beginning, you also search the exterior of the property. This makes the level size impressive, because you have to decide where to go first. Not only do you have to save your family, but you also have to secure your own survival by, for example, gaining extra lives.
Gameplay
You start the game with five lives. Two heart containers are available to you as a power bar. This means that you desperately need more energy and heart containers to free your family members. You are forced to search the villa strategically. You also explore selected areas to face a final boss. After the boss fight you will get a password that will let you continue where you left off. In the fight against the opponents you will find weapons such as swords. Shoes increase the speed of Gomez. So he can overcome larger abysses.
Conclusion
Graphically, the game is well-designed for its time. The atmosphere of the estate of Addams Family is well represented. There are also cute little characters and happy melodies. Nevertheless, the game is not easy and the opponents are sometimes difficult to defeat. Convincing is the freedom of gameplay. Without an expansion of your energy bar, you will not get far in the game. The Addams Family is definitely worth a look.
The NES version
It is almost impossible to be struck by opponents in this game. It does not matter in the NES version of 1991 whether you want to dodge to the left or right, you look or jump, you are always hit. The game allows you many unnecessary deaths. You have three lives available, then the game is over.
Sound and Grafik
A soundtrack is in vain in this game. There are two or three melodies that alternate. Mostly the classic soundtrack of the Addams Family was used. A sound that will be annoying in the long run sounds when you get hit. The graphics are very bad even for a NES game. The artwork is poor.
Replayability
Nobody really wants to play this game again. After 5 minutes you are frustrated and tired. The level design leaves much to be desired. You do not have much freedom of play, as the levels are very linear. You can then pay for the decapitation of the game.
Conclusion
The NES game is not really worth it. In comparison, the SNES game has been an improvement. Level sound and graphics belong in the drawer, from which one never gets them out again. Stay away from the NES version and dedicate yourself to another game.
The Addams Family The Game Boy game is one of the first Addams Family games. Gomez family is kidnapped. Your job is to free the family members again.
Gameboy
In the original Game Boy version the Addams Family presents itself with an entertaining Jump & Run game. In addition, it appeared for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Game Gear, Genesis, NES, SNES and ZX Spectrum. The side scrolling game is related to the movie released in 1991 and was developed in 1992 by Ocean Software.
The hijacked Addams
Gomez Addams has to go in search of his family. The individual family members disappeared inside the house. Gomez's job is to find and free all.
The Game
For the Game Boy, the graphics the Addams Family offers are very good. The backgrounds could be drawn lovingly. The music is also beautifully composed. The level design is varied. In 14 different levels, they present themselves. As locations, you will pass through the villa of the family, a cemetery, the toy land and a refrigerator.
Weapons and Enemies
With different weapons you draw against the opponents in the field. In defense, the individual weapons unfortunately fail more often. You will meet the most diverse enemies. The bosses are appropriate in difficulty.
Gameplay
Your opponents are ghosts, bats and other monsters. Touch them you will be de-energized. When your energy is used up, you lose a life. In total there are five available here. On the way you will find items, such as potions that support you. For example, you can transform yourself into a werewolf or a wolf.
The control
A downside offers the control. Gomez steers slightly stepping and shoots a bit too slow. The course of the monsters is sometimes unpredictable and difficult to see through. Traps on the ground are not recognizable.
Conclusion
Yes, the Addams Family plays like a customized Super Mario game. The gameplay is very similar or almost identical. Although it looks a bit like a copy it is very entertaining and captivating. The game is not outstanding but good. For Jump & Run fans it's definitely worth a look.
