As in the case of the Patchwork armchair, this chair is inspired by the original design of the Tulip chair by Eero Saarinen who designed it in the early 1940s, as part of the research promoted by the MoMA in New York entitled organic design in home furnishing collection.
The famous design seat was only put into production in 1956, 16 years later, thanks to Knoll, which acquired the patent.
The design is inspired by the tulip flower and evokes it in its shapes, this is the motif of its name. The base is characterized by a circular pedestal, made of die-cast aluminium and covered with Rilsan, an acrylic material. The seat is made of fiberglass.
