Hi Steemians,
I just posted my first short story on dbooks, an awesome place to publish collections of things that you write on the steemit blockchain.
I feel like steemit is an awesome place to practice my writing for entertainment. In my first short story, “Treats in the Basement”, I draw on my experience as a graduate student and now postdoc in academia. I hope that it generates some laughs.
More stories will follow, as I have time to write, so please give me feedback and let me know which characters you’d like to get to know better.
Into the Future
There are still a lot of considerations for aspiring writers who wish to publish on the website. I see three major issues with publishing on steemit.
- Publishing on steemit probably precludes you from publishing the same content somewhere else. Most publishers want sole ownership over the content.
- There is no easy way to retract posts that are published on the blockchain. This would be especially bad in cases where legal action was taken against a writer, for instance in cases of plagiarism or defamation.
- There is a limited time before voting rewards are closed, so you can only gain rewards for your writing over a short period.
