The whole NDi camera transport system is moving along at some SERIOUS pace, not only can you send your camera/hardware team onsite to setup quickly but you can also do all the switching and mixing remotely now if you have a good pipe and setup, heck you can even do vision mixing in the cloud using amazon for overlays, basically you could be a cafe with a decent set of cans, some controllers and a laptop and be curating a live stream even from the other side of the world — that’s incredible.
Then, this dropped recently

So what now, I mean I knew we had some kind of ‘discovery’ for public facing ndi cameras and I was thinking that might be a little ‘clunky’ but this REALLY opens things up for @steemcasting and amplifies the project much bigger/faster than I expected.
I don’t want to go into too much detail but once the system is up and running and stable (the content does not matter so much as much as the uptime and chat AROUND the content to start with) the next wave of fundraising might be to activate a global team around the world — it’s probably gonna be 12/24 people — either 1hr or 2hrs a day required of a person, ideally 7 days a week but we can make some overlap.
It’s going to take some ‘tinkering’ to get right and obviously we need to know that we can ‘pipe’ content from one area to another but if we can lock that down we might not even need to use the current third party playlist that we use, I believe this can/will move rapidly and the majority of the time will be spent on tools to check for switching over, latency issues and swapping to redundancy feeds.
sounds great, all good then?
Well yes and no, there is a downside right now in that NDi because it’s the new kid on the street is EXPENSIVE in it’s current brand new on the block debut, it’s inflated AF because they can demand what they want because it’s an all in one solution, super fast, brand new codec, 100mb, 60fps (even 4k I think) and a PoE (power over ethernet) all in solution, literally one cable to your network and fully discoverable over that — that makes deployment a breeze (well, we hope!) — but you know the case with all things NEW right!
Someone has to go down the rabbit hole right?
