The Ungranted Birthday Wish

It was my seventh birthday when I received a cake. My parents said, "make a wish," and so I did. I closed my eyes, whispered silently, then opened my eyes again. "Blow it", my father said. I replied, "I don't want to blow it." Then my mother asked why, and I explained my reason, "Should I still blow the candle, if my wish is for the candle to not lose its light?"
