Put-In-Bay Cave Experience

Little Underground Stalagmites at Put-In-Bay, OH. May 18, 2019

A surprise invite to a group of small islands in Ohio,
USA named Put-In-Bay rewarded me and my friends with numerous exciting events. One of these events was a trip into an underground cave visited by the historic Captain Perry.

The cost was an affordable $8.00 American where we were led on a guided tour onto the underground cave Perry's Cave. I saw underground stalagmites which take, according to the tour guide 400 years to form. When this cave was discovered the stalagmites were impressive and long, but unfortunately the initial man who made this discovery, not Perry, harvested the large formations and sold them mistakenly believing that they would quickly grow back. The remaining stalagmites are relatively small. The greed of discovery and culling now just an informational piece of history. A small underground lake is also in the cave with beautiful and poisonous waters. Initially they drank the water and discovered it was toxic.

The cave had low ceilings and is pretty spacious, appropriately the size of a football field. The footing is uneven and occasionally slippery so you must stay within the guard fencing to take the tour.

I didn't know that there were two caves on Put-In-Bay, but by passing signs we ventured in and were pleasantly surprised by what is hidden. The first cave was very small and didn't house a lake or stalagmites and is hidden below a winery at our first stop.

These caves are beautiful and colors of the water amazing for an underground lake!

These are moments life is made of, so keep your eyes peeled when away from home and I reccomend Put-In-Bay to anyone traveling in Ohio to pop over on the ferry and enjoy all of the food, shopping and sites that are available!

P.S Sunday July 21, 2019 Jeff and I will fly onto the adjoining island, South Bass, to meet with a realtor to discuss purchasing a rental Villa on one of the islands a ferry ride from Put-In-Bay at Hazard''s Resort. If purchased, we can visit often and make some passive income!
