The Alderweireld Conundrum

Reports have continue to pour out in the press and from their so called inside sources that Toby Alderweireld may well be sold in the summer. As many Tottenham fans will be aware, his contract negotiations have been dragging on for over a year now with no resolution. Toby is said to be keen to be paid in line with the top Premier League center backs. This is understandable as he is possibly the best in the league when fit. He also is 28 years old and possibly only set for one last big payday.

The problem lies in the Club's strict wage struture. His reported demands of 150k quid per week is in line with other players of his calibre in his position, but that is a large increase over Spurs top earner, Harry Kane.

The Belgian international who previously had stints with Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Southampton would have no shortage of suitors after his wonderful performances along side Super Jan the last couple of years. Rumor sites have ManU and other big clubs monitoring the situation.

Spurs have faired okay without him during his layoff, though the defense is markedly better with him. Points were dropped alarmingly quickly when he first went down and the diagnoal balls he plays over the top add another dimension to our style of play. However, Jan and Sanches have begun to form a partnership in the back.

Can and should Spurs pay Toby or cash in while he is still worth a pretty penny? My vote is to pay the players with the TV money so we can keep this group together. What do you think?
