Tinuwang Isda, Tatak Bisaya!

Perhaps you have heard someone you know complained eating too much meat or fatty foods already. Particularly those who watch out for their diet and bp's. When you're not getting any younger. =)

Tinuwang isda or fish stew has been a first-line to at least do away from unhealthy foods for a time.

It is not just a healthy dish. It is also being served to breastfeeding mothers because it complements well with some galactagogues such as malunggay and saluyot (jute leaves). Breastfeeding mothers is taking galactagogues throughout history to increase milk production by serving them a clear soup dish involving it before the galactagogue capsules by now.

Below is a simplified tinuwang isda recipe. We make use of the yellow fin tuna.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kilo yellow fin tuna
  • 1 pc medium red onion, sliced
  • 1 thumb-sized ginger, crushed
  • 1 stalk lemongrass
  • Malunggay
  • Alugbati
  • Salt and seasoning
  • A liter of water

Cooking tinuwang isda is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Bring water to a boil. Add the lemon grass, ginger and onion. Reboil.
  2. Add in the tuna. Cook for about 10minutes.
  3. Season with salt to taste. Stir in the malunggay and alugbati in the last minute.

And it's done. Best serve hot.

Note:
-Fresh fish is the ideal for tinuwang isda. You may use other variety of fish as long as it's fit for tinuwa.

-There are lots of variation of tinuwang isda out there. It's a dish that can be altered according to your appetite. You can add anything you like if you think it makes it more flavorful. We usually opted the simple way of making it as we love the natural and dinstinct fish flavor. Occasionally, we also try other ways of making it, for a change.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated. =)
