What is a slice of island bliss? It can be found almost anywhere in the world. Crack it open refresh yourself with the cool water and consume it's white meat. I had a craving for this pie and we happen to find a shop just near the place where we were staying at. Come have a taste with me a slice of bliss a slice of................................
Buko Pie (Coconut Custard Pie)
The shop we found is called Loumars a shop in Tagaytay that sell various Pasalubongs. This is what we call something that we bring home to our loved ones and friends if you have been on a vacation.
It is amazing how they have a large selection of pasalubongs. First thing you would see is this Butcheron which is like pork rinds but this one is made from chicken craw. It may look weird to some but it is actually very addicting once you get a taste. They sell if for around $3.20
Just below the butcheron is something vegetarian called Chichashroom which is also like pork rinds but made from mushrooms. You can eat as much as you like minus the guilt. This they sell for around $4.
Left and right you might be a bit overwhelmed with all the choices. Unless you have something in mind specifically.
Crinkles, cookies , tarts and a lot of other local delicacies which are very popular are available here. I'm pretty sure most tourists would love this shop.
Sweet Tamarind is also something I would also recommend.
If you are looking for nuts and peanuts to include on your drinking spree. They have different flavors of peanuts which you would enjoy as you have a cold one.
It is a small shop which offers a lot and the place was well kept. As my wife was waiting for our buko pie it was a great opportunity to cover the place. Though the staff was checking me out as I was taking photos. I figured it would be fine as we were there to buy something. Anyway they didn't mind at all. Probably they were not just used to seeing someone taking so much interest in their products.
I noticed honey and vinegar are always on display together. Maybe they kept all those in bottles together.
So many sweets including peanut brittle which is one of my favorites. There is a specific brand that I love the most which cannot be found here but found in the Northern Summer Capital of the Country. Which we are also hoping to visit sometime in the future if things go well. Any way let's leave this place as we got what we came for.
Here we go up to our room in a box which says Happy Holidays. But no worries it's just the box the pie is freshly baked and the staff told us that it would last 3 days in the refrigerator. I doubt the pie would last that long once we slice it.
Open the box and a wonderful aroma would fill your senses. Freshly baked Buko Pie is something that is hard to resist just by the smell of it. It's ingredients are sugar, young coconut meat and condensed milk.
Enjoy this pie on the balcony with an awesome view which I would show you next time. But right now the only view I love right now are these pies that are waiting for me
I hope you enjoyed this food trip and looking forward to share with you more in the future.
Thanks for joining me and see you again. Cheers.
