PREPARING RIPE JACKFRUIT BEFORE CONSUMING

HELLO EVERYONE!

My Mama just got a big (literally BIG) present from one of my Dad's student. It was a huge Jackfruit. I carried it and it weighed almost 5 kilograms (my approximation). Its smell was good and I knew it was ripe already. I called my Mama and she showed me how to open and prepare Jackfruit.

Jackfruit is a popular fruit in tropical countries like Philippines. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and it contains more protein than any other fruits. A very good diet regimen!

She first cut it in cross sectional plane for her to easily cut into smaller parts.

It looked so tasty and healthy. I bet vegetarians love it.

As she opened it. It was slimy and sticky. Mama told me that it would cause her hands unnecessary stains and glue effect if she wouldn't use cooking oil to prevent it.

Mama with the help of my cousin removed the meat of the Jackfruit from the clutches of its outer covering. It was slippery I believe as I watched them. When the meat was removed, they separated the seed from the meat too.

The Jackfruit's meat looked so juicy! I had some and it really tasted sweet and the texture was smooth. And my mouth had the very strong and distinct odor of Jackfruit (well I like it better than Durian).

The seed of Jackfruit is also edible by boiling it like peanuts. Its seeds are also used as ingredients in some viands like Mongo. I like eating them when I was still a kid until now.

In addition, the meat of the Jackfruit could be used also in different dishes. It gives a favorable flavor in Banana Turon. It could also be sweetened and put in jars for longer consuming.
