Not too long ago I had the absolute pleasure of wining and dining at Idiom Wines, located in Sir Lowry's Village near Somerset West in Cape Town, South Africa. Arriving there was already a mindblowing experience as you are on top of a mountain and have views of the bay below.
Idiom Wines is a wine farm that is owned by the Bottega family. Being of Italian heritage they aim to promote Italian wine varietals in South Africa, a country largely offering French wine varietals. They also offer a complete fine dining experience beautifully paired with their wines.
This is the menu I had to make some tough choices from.
I ended up selecting some winning dishes, with no regrets. Here they are.
Pre-Starter:
This is the best butternut soup I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Topped with a creamy mushroom puree.
Starter:
I went for the Cured Trout Tartare, paired with their 2015 Viognier.
Main:
For my main meal I had the Duo of braised pork belly and roasted pork fillet. This was paired with their exceptional 2013 Barbera.
Dessert:
To end off the memorable gastronomic event, I chose the Dark chocolate dome. As you can see, the dome itself offered its own little experience. This was paired with the Imperium Black Gold Merlot
If you're looking for the perfect outing in Somerset West in Cape Town, then making the effort to get to Idiom Wines is surely to be worth it. They have everything needed for the perfect day; from exceptional views for those perfectly captured moments, to some of the best wines and food that the Cape has to offer.
