Hallva Traditional Albanian

I’m NOT a traditional person, but I love traditional food. Below I have included the recipe for making Hallva. Hallva is very popular in Albania, Turkey (our main influence) and other Arab countries.

INGREDIENTS
• 1 cup flour
• 1 cup butter, margarine or oil
• 1 & 1/4 sugar
• 5 cups of water
• Optional – 1 cup of chopped walnuts

DIRECTIONS

  1. Gently heat the butter or oil in a pan
  2. Add the flour to the pan and mix until golden brown for 40 minutes over low heat.
  3. When the mix turns light golden color, add sugar and water to the pan with flour, simmer/mix for about 20 minutes
    Optional: You can add chopped walnuts to the mix
  4. Use a spoon to take out small pieces of the Hallv and place on a serving plate.

Eat warm and add a Turkish coffee
