Anyone else looking forward to the Dencun upgrade to the Ethereum network that will happen later today? It is set to happen in 7 hours and 30 minutes from now, approximately 15:00 CET.
One of the biggest news is that it will introduce so-called Blobs, something that will help transactions on layer-2 blockchains, and make them all cheaper. I read somewhere that a blob is like a passenger (the normal transaction), but now they can bring additional luggage as well. That makes it easier and cheaper.
If you want a real-world breakdown of the Dencun upgrade and what it is all about, then I suggest you read the following article from Nexo at https://nexo.com/blog/ethereum-dencun-upgrade-real-world-breakdown.
Since I frequently use Mantle (a L2 blockchain built on Ethereum), and then especially Merchant Moe, this is going to be awesome. Currently, transactions cost between $0.2 and $0.4 per transaction (sometimes more), but I am curious to see how much cheaper it will get once the Dencun upgrade takes place. This is also going to be vital for Optimism, Polygon, and other Layer two networks.
