Born into a world of pain is the condition of this world. Most of us succumb to the pain and suffering and allow it to shift the beautiful that we are, into something else.
As a child, we are hopeful, dreamers and innocent, but as time passes, we stop dreaming and become the pain that we see around us. As if somehow it gets absorbed into our very being.
We naturally try to fight this and stay “positive, but most don’t succeed and slip into a kind of dream state, going about our lives on auto pilot. We believe we are alive and forget the beauty we once were; the innocent lights we came into being as. We become angry, judgmental, and loose the kindness towards other beings and very often, towards ourselves.
Until one day, tragedy strikes. The love of a lost one, sickness, or another event that causes us to be pulled out of our coma back into reality. The truth of this life. We start reflecting, contemplating. For this brief moment of awareness of what is, we commit to change. But soon after, when the memory of pain dissipates, we slowly slip back to a sleep-like state.
So how do we stay awake? How do we become that beautiful souls that we were born with? How do we remember?
Becoming the watcher is key. You have to make a commitment to yourself that you do not just want to go through this life without purpose or unaware, but that you want to be the best version of you possible. You want to live from and as the soul, not the body, the flesh side of who you are.
At first it will be challenging to stay awake, but you have to stay vigilant. Just like training the body, you need to train the self.
First and foremost, you need to understand that the body and the soul are two separate entities. The soul is who you are, not the body. The body is simply your vehicle in this life. This fact is apparent only once the soul leaves and the body fades away. It is the soul that keeps the body in operation.
The soul is a pure energy form that is you, and the body is made up of flesh and bones, however having its own intelligence and holds the mind. The body and mind are like unruly children and strive only to fulfill its animalistic desires and needs of the material world. Once you understand that the mind and body and soul are separate, you can start training them accordingly.
Back to becoming the watcher. Effort, which is to be exercised each and every moment to watch the mind. The trick here is to watch the thoughts as you would watch clouds passing by and not to be immersed in a thought that gets noticed, however in the beginning, this will be inevitable.
Simply, gently push past the thought and continue watching. The idea is to stay in the present moment, and merely be an observer of the self. At first, because of trauma or social programming that we have all been subjected to from birth, you will get lost in a thought, move out of the present or slip away back into sleep for a while, sometimes for days, before you realize you’ve slipped away.
The point is to return to the moment of watching. The more you train your brain to stay in the present moment, you start creating new neural pathways in your brain. Your training has begun.
You become aware and watch your thoughts and start paying attention to when your ego steps forward, when you become angry and why, your fears, your faults. You become the watcher of yourself. In time, not only does your awareness grow for yourself, but for the world around you.
The process then moves from a process of watching to moving towards steps of observation, cleaning and refining. Understanding that the ego is from the mind, from fears and an understanding that it is an unnecessary part of who you are.
There is a saying that says, Live one day at a time, but when you start this process, to be successful, you need to live moment to moment until you reach the desired effect.
This process should be an ongoing process that keeps you awake and aware. As you start stripping away the ego and parts of you that are undesirable, you start feeling your soul, your true self. This feeling of being is not only essential as a human being, but truly beautiful and liberating. True bliss…
Live from your soul, not from your pain body…
