What could I share as my most satisfying teaching experience when I only have a half-year teaching experience?

I’m on my first year of my journey as a teacher. I’m a licensed teacher but I’m currently working as an administration officer in an educational institution. Because of my teaching background our school principal offered me to teach and practice my profession. That offer brought excitement to me as well as doubt.

Since it’s my first time to officially practicing my profession, I was really nervous questioning myself If I’m still capable to be a teacher. But I’m not kind of person who easily give up, I can’t give up!

So I got my old books from college and tried to remember the different principles in teaching my professors taught me. Though I need a lot of refreshments but my sincerity to impart knowledge to my students is my driving fuel to do my best.

Nervousness never stop me to feel the excitement in the fact that I can officially call myself a teacher and put that acronym LPT (Licensed Professional Teacher) at the end of my name.

like this…

MARISHTEL A. DALOSA, LPT

Haha!
So my excitement brought me imagination of what kind of students I will have.
Are they more intelligent than me?
What do they look like?
What will be the kind of relationship we might have?

I had so many questions in my head at that time. But what I hold onto is that I should develop a sense of respect inside my classroom so that our differences will not be a hindrance in our teacher-student relationship. I like to use our diversities as our strength rather than to address it as a weakness.

Our first day was getting-to-know each other something I learned from my college experience. That two-hour of knowing them was fun and full of laughter as well as being honest in our expectations from each other.

Now that I’m on my half-way of the school quarter, I got to know them more.

Teaching is not an easy profession, you can’t put the blame on the students as to “why they are not learning”.

There are times that I was frustrated with my teaching abilities thinking that I could do better. So in every end of the lesson I always reflect and look at the part that I should improve upon.

My students are great! The relationship I have with them is something I want to keep forever.

Now can a teacher like me who has only a half-year teaching experience can answer the question “What is my most satisfying teaching experience?”

Well I can’t say that this is my most satisfying but to get a chance to meet my first batch of students is a satisfying teaching experience for me.

Meeting them was an opportunity to renew my love for teaching.

Meeting them encourage me to be a better teacher every day.

Meeting them lead me to opening myself and set aside my fears for new challenges in my profession.

Meeting them taught me to be and to think like a student, always curious and asking questions and continually filling my wonders of this universe.

This is only a beginning for me. I know that there are still a lot of satisfying teaching experiences waiting for me and I’m looking forward to it.
