Tips for Making the Most of World Environment Day | @justlibby Podcast #040

Happy World Environment Day! I've got several eco-friendly tips on how we can all make a positive difference.

Make sure to listen to my original @dsound podcast to get more details and examples!

What I discuss in the podcast:

SHOP LOCALLY
Do you know what food miles are?
Basically “it is a mile over which a food item is transported from producer to consumer, as a unit of measurement of the fuel used to do this.” - wikipedia.org

AVOID GETTING FOOD TO GO... EAT AT HOME.
Not only are you not collecting plastic and sterofoam food containers your also able to make food with fewer resources. It can be less expensive and often times healthier!

SAY NO TO SINGLE USE ITEMS
Plastic bags, straws, and cups are a no go... Swap for reusable totes, metal or bamboo straws, and BPA free reusable plastic, metal, or glass containers

USE A PRESSURE COOKER
It can take up to 70% less time which means you use less electricity!

TAKE MILITARY SHOWERS
Turn your shower on only when rinsing. So when you're lathering your shampoo the water won’t be flowing.

CARPOOL OR TAKE YOUR BIKE
Meeting friends to carpool can be fun! Consider taking your bike when going out, meeting friends, or going to work.

EAT LESS MEAT
70% of the Amazon rainforest has been destroyed to raise cows for meat production

45% of our global land is occupied by the livestock system

23% of the global freshwater supplies raising livestock

14.5 % of greenhouse gas emissions are from the animal agriculture system

To make a burger requires 660 gallons of water! Crazy!

Thanks so much for listening to my podcast and for being open enough to read my post. Talk to you soon!
