Stay Woke
We have an extremely self aware brand new banger for you all to bump! This dude's got lines like hey, not yay, yo. My dude @hostioso never stops impressing me with his content and flows. The beat in question was apart of my B-sides series, and it resonated with him enough we decided to collaborate. I sent him the track, and what he sent back was pure gold.
The dynamics and flow changes I heard impressed me. He matches the change in vibe throughout the song perfectly, and even adds to the intensity and energy of it all. Much love to the dude for bringing that fierce delivery this song needed. It goes a long way!
And then he sends me the English translated lyrics........
Holy shit!!! The lyrics, song title, and cover (shoutout @dalisett for making such excellent and comical trap rapper artwork there!) all perfectly encapsulate the epitome of commercial trap music. I have a love hate relationship with this genre of music, as I find the beats infectious enough to make it a guilty pleasure of mine. I won't lie, I indulge! I've made a few ignorant trap beats, but what @hostioso did here was different: dude basically calls out all the wack trap rappers and the bullshit they push. This song is all about (to me) talking about the very cliche (hence generic) tendencies we see in popular trap music. It's genius to me. He really hit the nail on the head with this one. On top of being from Venezuela and coming from different styles of music as well, he completely shits on so many famous rappers that push this garbage on people. Watch out!
Here are the translated lyrics, and I also acquired extra commentary explaining some of the references he alludes to:
I'm making trap
you'll get the hang
I want much cash
to be caught like Farruko
I know how to do it hey
the law doesn't matter hey
if I want I finish this line
saying hey hey hey hey
if I want I repeat hey
if I want I don't rhyme hey
if I want to repeat, I don't rhyme
and neither have sense hey
I can also say hum
I tell you another stuff and hum
i put lil sounds that in trap sound so cool
I didn't get a rhyme
and now I want codeine
I no idea what codeine is
but it sounds fine prrrr
I can also say prrrr
as with a gun
brrrr brrr brrrr
skrt generic trap in the area
This is the generic trap
I have a generic high
I want to steal all the gold like Colon when discovered America
a hamburger by mc donalds
generic your pussy
that tastes same as another 3 that I ate hours ago
I'm with 40 and I'm not ali baba
So, i rap like this, look at i can separate into syllables
boy, don't crow me with your mother's money
what you grabbed for smoking is one less meal
skrt
look at me how I do skrt
look at me how i flexing hey
mccklopedia come and ask me if I went back to school
to say you yes, look at the blue shirt
with the smell of pencil
and in my hand a bottle of anis with frig
Pussy, pussy, pussy hey
I had not said swearwords
so now I said pussy that rhymes perfectly with my cock
I also want a big butt
and a busty in the mornings
although none of those bitches is able to give me meal
This is the generic trap
I have a generic high
I want to steal all the gold like Colon when discovered America
a hamburger by mc donalds
generic your pussy
that tastes same as another 3 that I ate hours ago
I'm making trap
you'll get the hang
I want much cash
to be caught like Farruko
I know how to do it hey
the law doesn't matter hey
if I want I finish this line
saying hey hey hey hey
if I want I repeat hey
if I want I don't rhyme hey
if I want to repeat, I don't rhyme
and neither have sense hey
I can also say hum
I tell you another stuff and hum
i put lil sounds that in trap sound so cool
I didn't get a rhyme
and now I want cocaine
I don't inhale cocaine
I confuse it with flour
gvng gvng gvng
look also I say gvng
although I have no idea what the fuck is gvng!
Commentary:
Reference to Forruko: He is a reggaeton and trap singer from Puerto Rico that recently got caught with 10K USD and is charged with money trafficking. Mc Klopedia is another rapper he references, and this guy became a famous Venezuelan freestyle battle rapper. He was known for calling out an opponent who had young girls supporting him during their battle, asking if "he went back to school?" He then references blue shirts (typical student uniform color in Venezuela) and the "smell of pencil" is a common expression in Venezuela used for school kids. The nod to anis refers to a popular alcoholic beverage in Venezuela, especially popular amongst high school kids. To me, these lines talk about repeating the same habits you did back in school, instead of learning from them. So many trap rappers die these days, when they had great potential (See Lil Peep and the more recent XxxTentacion).
This song has comical elements, and very sobering ones. The beat is extra dark, and I think my dude Hostioso evened it out quite well. We are beginning to compile a substantial list of songs. I don't see that stopping any time soon, either! Be on the lookout for more dopeness from the both of us, and steem on fam!
Did you know?!?!?!?!
I co host a radio show on @msp-waves called Voices from the Mountains #vfmradio. Every Saturday, 3-5am UTC you can hear my beautiful voice along with my host mates @intuitivejakob and @lpfaust. We get pretty silly, and you're sure to be entertained between the satire/comedy, music and energy readings. We are working on building a team up and we have some other big plans in store for the future! So excited to actualize our vision.
