US: WOMAN VICTIM OF DOMESTIC ABUSE FEIGNS TO ORDER PIZZA TO ALERT 911

A woman facing domestic violence managed to successfully call to 911 and this, without the perpetrator realizing her manoeuvre, by pretending to order a pizza.

Authorities of the city of Oregon, Ohio, praised the victim’s quick thought, which led to the arrest of the alleged abuser.

The victim told the local media that her mother was being attacked at the time, as relates BBC news.

This move for astutely call the emergency services has been known for years, however, this is an uncommon case confirming its effectiveness.

Nonetheless, the authorities have warned that the efficiency of this strategy is not guaranteed to work, because dispatchers are not trained to distinguish between a genuine call for help disguised as a pizza order or simply someone dialled the wrong number.

On the side of the dispatcher who answered the call, Tim Teneyck, he explained to the local media that he initially thought the woman had dialled an incorrect number.

However, when she insisted that she was talking to the right person, he realised something was off, partly because he had seen similar scenarios being shared on social media.

“You see it on Facebook, but it’s not something that anybody has ever been trained for,” Mr Teneyck said.

“Other dispatchers that I’ve talked to would not have picked up on this. They’ve told me they wouldn’t have picked up on this.”
