This is a story of a young beautiful girl called Nneka, she was born into the family of Mazi Ukpanka in a village called Mbamiri in the eastern part of Nigeria. Nneka had two elder brothers called Emeka and chinedu. Nneka was in love with a merman, whom she met at the stream. But her parents and her brother, Emeka thought the merman wasn't good enough for her.....
One evening, Emeka was fetching water while Nneka was washing the plates and cups but their parents stopped Emeka from fetching water and sent Nneka to fetch the water instead, claiming that her water was always very clean. Unknown to her that her parents and brothers had come up with a plan.
So Emeka gave Nneka the bucket and she gladly accepted and left for the stream.
As she was going to the stream, they followed her but she didn't know.
As soon as she got to the stream, the stream became pure.
As she entered the stream, her handsome merman love came out from the water and she was very happy to see him. And he said to her; "come to me, oh my beautiful darling". And she smiled and laughed and went to meet him.
They played and started making love in the stream while her family was by the side watching them.
After they were done making love, the merman falls deeply in love with her. He loves her so much that he can not stand her absence anymore, so he initiated and bonded her spiritually with him.
She loves the mermad so much too but doesn't know anything about the initiation and the spiritual bonding.
So she headed home, feeling so happy after making love with the merman while her family went and attacked her merman lover. She doesn't even have a glimpse of what was going on.
While the merman was heading towards the deep side of the water, he saw a group of people with weapons running faster towards him.
As they got closer to attack him, he provoked and changed into a complete merman to defend himself and retaliate.
When Nneka's mother saw that he has changed to a merman, she brought out her native medicine and blew it on the face of the merman to bring him down and weaken him.
As the merman dropped, they angrily used their machete to cut him up, but he was able to escape into the water before they could kill him. Though he sustained injuries.
Nneka while at home felt the pain of the cut because she had been bonded together with the merman like they are one, so anything that happens to the merman in one way or the other will also affect her.
She got to the stream and saw that the stream is not the way it used to be and even as at that, the stream did not recognise her presence anymore like it used to.
When Nneka got back home she couldn't sleep. The next morning, she came out and started crying, she refused doing chores.
Her mother came and asked ; "my beautiful daughter why are you crying? If it's about the merman, he has gone for good, he doesn't worth you, you should be happy we have saved you, here is the machete your lovely brother Emeka used to cut him up, you should be thanking us".
After the mother was done talking to her, she could not hold herself anymore so she started playing around with water to see if she can get herself back but that little play with the water close to her, changed everything.
Something extra ordinary happened as the water she was playing with started swallowing her. Her family rushed to come draw her out but before they could come it was already too late, she's gone....
She went deeper and deeper and she saw a mermaid who said to her; "welcome, we have been expecting you. This way follow me".
Nneka followed the mermaid as the mermaid directed her
As she got there, they completely initiated her, crowned her princess and got her ready to go meet the prince.
When she saw the prince (her merman love) she was so surprise and happy because she taught he was dead and she would never see him again.
After the complete initiation, they joined them together as husband and wife and they got married.......
