I am my own Government

Ever wondered why several people just want to leave the country Nigeria for a greener pasture. Pause! Some ain’t really intending to leave because of a greener pasture somewhere else. They just want to be In a sane environment where things are in order and humans are treated as humans and not as animals.

Truth be told, when you suddenly wake up and realize that as an individual you tend to be doing and providing almost every service that ought to be the responsibility of the government, you would want to seek some harbor somewhere else.

You can’t wake up to comfortably on your water tap and be sure you will get water. In fact, I am not sure the government water cooperation is still working because its been years I experienced or see government water cooperation work, either where I stay or any where else. How about Electricity? Hmm, that’s a whole episode on its own. Everyone is happier using solar powered electricity you have to subscribe to on a monthly basis and have no worries if Electricity companies decides to fold up. Oh! Our health care is so wacked that even the best of Professors we have in the so called one of the best hospitals we have in the country end up dead from a little illness in the same institution they gave all their life to try and make some impact and expect some change.

Why am I ranting?
I stay in a relatively serene area and my apartment is so awesome that friends and families think I paid hundreds of thousands to get the place. Well, its just nice. We do have this electricity issues from time to time and some days ago it got worse that we had no light for close to a week. After trying all we could I remembered I have a friend who works in the said Electricity company so I put a call through to him. To my surprise, there was nothing he could do. Instead he said except we in the community would contribute and buy another transformer. Haha, you laughed too. I asked a simple question whose responsibility it is to buy transformer, he sincerely answered that it’s the Electricity company but, that’s the situation we find ourselves in this beloved country.
I was just devastated and dropped the call. The best is now to subscribe to using other alternative source of power supply. I guess you now understand the reason for my ranting. A government that will not take responsibility for the comfort of its citizens, is that a government? We the populace provide our water, electricity, health systems and all for ourselves. Ain’t we our own Government then.

The light issue has been fixed, but no hope it will be for long before it develops fault again.

How did we get here.
Well, I cannot say really this is how we got here. But I can say that when a nation cannot boast of a visionary leader with a clear focus on a defined destination and chat the cause to how to get there, this levels of underdevelopment will sure be evident. Hello!, this doesn’t exonerate the citizens who sell their future by voting for the wrong reasons and not for future legacy. This is simply how I can explain how we got here.

How do we get THERE?
Hmm! this is sure a hard one but not impossible. We have to be determined as a nation. Every country that is seen to be great today were intentional about it. They were selfless, determined and focused. They were out there to make a name, create a legacy and not exploit the masses. The citizens were informed and know what choices to make. Their choices were influenced by the right reasons and so they are reaping its fruits.

I have not given up on my country. Hard to hold on, but I will hold on still because within us lies the capacity to be a world power and a force to be reckoned with.

Be patriotic about your country.
