2017 - The year of Gradients and Drop Shadow


2017 is going fast and I thought I could take this time to point out two of my favorite design trends and explain what they are and why I like them. They also happen to best some of the most used this year.

These two trends have made real comebacks this year, not long ago gradients where "so 2007". So lets talk about them.

Drop Shadow


Drop shadow,is the use of shadows below your design objects. It adds depth to a design and create hierarchy by making certain objects pop more than others. The use of the drop shadow died out throw out the flat design error. It has recently come back over the year and it very dominant in most designs. You will see in it Semi-Flat designs, it is used to draw your eye to the post important parts of a design. Drop shadow is also used lots in UI (user interface). An example is notifications on a website (like facebook), they will have a drop shadow to show the user that that is above the other content.

I personally like drop shadow when used on a few elements in a design as it creates a beautiful contrast and adds more to the design.
