Food Trippin' at Baguio City's Slaughterhouse

I've been reading a lot about this small kitchenette in Baguio City's Slaugherhouse Compound so we decided to give it a try during our last visit to the City of Pines.

It's just me and the missus that went there when we finally got a chance to sneak out from the kids. We got out around 9pm and after about a 30-minute drive from our AirBNB rental, we arrived at the Slaugherhouse Compound, relying only on Waze to lead the way :p

Balajadia Kitchenette

Some stalls were already closed, but there was one that was still open, thankfully, it was the one that we've been reading good reviews about, Balajadia Kitchennete.

We ordered the Bulalo, the inihaw na liempo, and the guinisang talbos ng sayote

Serving portions were large and was more than enough for the two of us.

The Bulalo

The bulalo was ok, nothing to write home about. I prefer the flavor profile of the ones that are being served in Batangas, this one's just plain and light, but was still good nonetheless. The light taste was easily fixed with a kalamansi-patis-sili dip. Maybe that's the way the owners intended it to be, for you to adjust the taste to your liking.

Inihaw na Liempo

The flavor of their liempo was very good, the meat was tender and very flavourful. I found their dip made of what appears to be dinuguan weird at first, but when I tried it, it works well to enhance the taste of the dish. If the dinuguan dip is not your cup of tea, then there's always the old reliably chilimansi

Guisadong Talbos ng Sayote

This was my first time to try Talbos ng Sayote, and was surprisingly good. The veggies were crisp and fresh, and the taste was just right. It was the dish I liked the most, and ate a lot of. lol it was a perfect complement to the other meat dishes that we had.

I would recommend this place whenever you're tired of the usual restos in Baguio, price was reasonable as well, I think our bill was less than PHP500 ($10) with softdrinks. It was a bit hard to find though, but can be found using Waze and keeping your eyes peeled. It helps if you have someone with you to look for it so you can concentrate on driving. I also read that it's not advisable to bring your car during the day as parking can prove to be difficult (that's why we went there at night).

Verdict: Worth a second and even a third visit.
