Every 1 st of May in a very small town in the Yucatan peninsula called Tetiz, a beautiful tradition takes place. Every day of the month a plumeria arrangement or decoration must be presented to the patriot saint of the town “La Virgen de la Asuncion”.
The arrangements are made from bamboo trunks cut in half and tied together to make a base for the flowers. shapes are then made by the different color plumeria on top of the bamboo base. The plumeria flowers are also used to decorate the church, creating large bouquets and hanging arches.
This festivity is made so all families can thank for their good fortune and give back to the community. Every day as the decorations are being presented there is an 8 pm mass, after the mass practically the whole town is invited over to the house of the family who presented the decoration that night for food and drinks.
Feel free to leave any comments or ask any questions, this is a beautiful cultural experience that I am glad I could share with you guys!
