In a world where money goes through the globe at breakneck speed, Western Union wants to take things one step further by tapping a blockchain-based infrastructure.
The company looks at Ripples platform as a way to settle payments with more liquid and possibly lower fees, Western Union CEO Hikmet Ersek emphasized during a call earlier this week.
A spokesman confirmed that Western Union actually experimented with the XRP, Ripple's token, according to Fortune.
Western Union Confirms XRP Integration of Ripple Blockchain Trial
Western Union has formally confirmed that its Ripple-based blockchain trial will include XRP integration, making the money transfer giant the largest firm to test XRP in its internal payment flows.
Western Union confirmed rumors about the partnership on Wednesday. Details about the trial were slim, but it seemed unlikely that XRP was involved given that most of Ripple’s partners have connected to RippleNet, the company’s private enterprise blockchain.
