The G20 Summit is an annual meeting of the world's biggest economic powers. They come together and try to develop strategies to avoid recessions and otherwise unite on worldwide issues. Some of the major topics to come up each year include climate change and world health.
During the past few Summits (last year in Argentina), crypto and blockchain tech were discussed as more of a side topic. Most member nations have not yet considered crypto to be a big enough issue to be worried about.
It's a little bit different this year. For one, the G20 Summit is in Japan, a cryptocurrency hotbed. Secondly, many other of the member nations are beginning to see the ramifications of virtual currencies - a few are even getting downright antsy about it.
So this year, with Japan leading the way, cryptocurrency is going to get some attention on a global basis. Topics that will likely be in the limelight include taxation, remittances, exchange regulation and protecting investors.
Many mini-summits are being held in different Japanese cities before the big G20 Summit happens in late June. This past weekend, finance ministers and central bank authorities met to discuss economic issues, including crypto.
