Building A Four GPU Mining Rig With Used Gaming Motherboard

I got a second hand Gigabyte gaming motherboard and built a mining rig with it. The motherboard came with CPU, cooler and RAM along with a bunch of other computer parts so I got a good deal.

Usually I first set up a new mining rig with a single card and installed Windows 10 Pro from a USB stick. Then I ran my mining software and MSI Afterburner to test out the card for a while. On this board I installed the first card right onto the motherboard directly and then got Windows installed.

After testing it in Afterburner to see that it was installed and could be adjusted there, I then installed another card and rebooted the computer.

I did this until I had all four GPUs installed and running properly.

When installing a graphics card onto a mining rig, you will often see a black screen for periods of time. Depending on the speed of your hardware, this can take quite a while. You may think the computer has frozen up or quit working but just let it sit for a while and be patient. Often the screen will come back on when the software has been properly installed.

This Gigabyte gaming motherboard has 5 PCIe slots but I could only get four to work together at any given time. I tried different slots, risers and cards but nothing helped me use all the slots. (That was not on this video though).

I was finally happy to settle with four cards on this mining rig.

Once I got the rig fully set up, I got my mining software going and was very happy to see a lot of green shares on the screen. This is always a happy sight to see on a new mining rig.
