“Flinch” is a crime drama about hitman Joey Doyle (Daniel Zovatto) who lives with his mother (Cathy Moriarty). Joey works for crime boss Lee Vaughn (David Proval). Lee keeps a cut of each of Joey’s jobs as repayment for a debt owed by Joseph Doyle, Sr. (Steven Bauer). We don’t find out what the debit is which adds to the suspense, imo.
Writer/director Cameron Van Hoy and his crew did an excellent job selecting the cast, locations, cars, and soundtrack. The lighting is superb, every detail can be seen even in the dark scenes. Other than a few scenes where the actors appear to be whispering, making it difficult to hear the dialogue, “Flinch” is one of the best movies I”ve seen in a while. The movie is Goodfellas meets Miami Vice. If you’re a fan of crime dramas, twists even my “writer’s brain” didn’t see coming, and music/fashion straight out of the 80s, you’re gonna love “Flinch.”
If you’d like to view “Flinch” it’s available for rent on Amazon. It’s also available in the cinema they built on the “Flinch” website - https://www.flinchthemovie.com/ for 2 Matic.
