Sheathing the Porch - November 6, 2019 @goldenoakfarm

He got out there early as it was the last of the nice days. He prepped the top of the porch for putting sheathing on. As the morning wore on, the wind got steadily stronger.

My intern and I were working in the New Herb garden and watched with alarm as he tried to put the first piece of sheathing up on this west side. He got it up there, but it was not going to slide in place, so he took it down.

It seems it was cut correctly, but had to go up in 2 pieces. He managed that with just me holding the ladder. Then he started measuring for the other side. I didn’t watch but next thing I hear, he’s decided to not put that piece up. It sounds like he tried and even with small pieces, he had a chance to fly.

So he worked on the fascia boards (I think that’s right) that face the edges.

Also there seems to be a bit of a conundrum in that east corner where the ladder is, with a valley from the 2” x 8” main roof and 2” x 6” porch roof, and the 2” x 8” main roof where it comes down from the valley in the main roof. But he will figure it out, he has John Henry syndrome!
