The Fun of Lower Level Conventions

When most people think of Comic Con, they think of the massive international con in San Diego, the convention held in New York City each October, or even C2E2 in Chicago. But many don't even realize that smaller conventions that take place can be even more fun than these massive shows. One such con is Walker Stalker con. Walker Stalker con is a lower level convention completely committed to the Walking Dead comic and television series. A low con like this means attendance is a lot fewer so no one is cutting between you or you getting squished while looking at the various exhibitor merchandise. A smaller con like this is also great for celebrity encounters. Less people means less wait times in line for autographs, meet and greets and photo ops. You can even see them walking around and its funny when you notice that Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon in the show) is standing in line for a hot dog behind you and you're the only person to notice who he is. People tend to not pay attention to what is directly in front of them. Now many of you probably think that such a small con would have a smaller amount of celebrities. This can sometimes be true, but that's why we need to research who will be attending before we buy our tickets if the celebrities are what you are going for. When i attended Walker Stalker con last winter, there was no plan. I received a phone call from a buddy, said he had an extra ticket and that's all I needed to know. I walked in, saw amazing exhibitors, did some browsing and had the opportunity to meet and have my poster autographed by Chandler Riggs (plays the character of Carl Grimes). He was a funny and very mature young guy that was probably having more fun talking with his fans than his fans were talking with him. So when looking at the various shows around your area, don't forget the smaller, lesser known ones. You could end up meeting Norman Reedus at a hot dog stand, getting that autograph from a main character of a great TV show and all in all having a great day out with other adoring fans that are all there to celebrate the same love of media as you.
