Since graduating from university in 2016 I no longer was granted gym access that was included in tuition. Luckily, Boise State's climbing gym brought me on as a route setter, so I set several routes there a month in exchange for full access to the gym facility. Here's the process of setting a boulder route.
Pick an open spot on the wall and visualize your route
I wanted my route to follow this basic direction
Decide your route's difficulty by selecting what size holds you want to use, and get your starting holds in place
My starting holds are the four pinkish red ones without tape near them.
Continue placing holds in the sequence the moves will be made, and repair any worn t-nuts you come across with the tap
Tape your starting hands hold with a V and the rest of the holds so the tape is visible depending on the climber's vantage toward the hold
My route consists of the holds with pink tape next to them
