Hi everyone! This is my entry to @josejirafa's Clay Art Contest #6. I was invited by @tonie to join this week and the theme is: Something That Scares You
Well, there are a lot of things that scare me. Bugs, horror films & characters, the deep sea, public speaking, extreme rides and many more. (Yes, I am a coward. Haha) But if there's one thing that I totally cringe at, it's seeing irregular patterns or clusters of small holes or bumps (especially if its IN our body).
This condition is often referred to as TRYPOPHOBIA.
And surely, I'm not the only one with this kind of fear or "phobia." A Psychological Science study has estimated that trypophobia is present in 16% of people. Don't worry though, this condition is not officially recognized as a mental disorder. The term trypophobia itself was only coined by a participant in an online forum from greek words trýpa which means "hole" and phóbos which means "fear".
Researchers hypothesize that it is the result of a biological revulsion that associates trypophobic shapes with danger or disease, and may therefore have an evolutionary basis.
And now here's my attempt to make you feel uneasy through this clay art.
Yea, I know what you’re thinking.. EW
This looks simple and easy to make but I really had a hard time with this one, specially when making the perfect skin tone that will match my skin.
Materials
- Modelling Clay
- Liquid Foundation
- Water Color
- Clear nail polish
Procedure
For the skin, mix white with a bit of orange, pink and blue. The ratio will depend on the skin tone that you want to achieve. I made mine in a lighter shade and covered it up with a thin coat of liquid foundation. I used a pen to make holes, and colored it with a mix of black and red for the blood. For the maggots, I mixed yellow with a bit of brown, and rolled them to fit the holes.
This was a last minute entry so pardon the imperfections. Hehe
Without the maggots
And that's it! I hope you guys like it. Thanks for reading!
I'm nominating @deeday31 to participate in this contest. It might be too late for this week, but I hope you can still make it.
To anyone who is interested to join, here's the link to this contest. Good luck to us!
