The monument to Duke was erected in Odessa on the Primorsky Boulevard in 1828. The statue of Arman Emmanuel du Plessis, the Duke of Richelieu became the first monument of Odessa. The Duke is made in full bronze and faces the Potemkin Stairs.
On the three lateral surfaces of the pedestal are depicted the gods of the agriculture of justice and commerce. By the way, the goddess of justice is depicted without a bandage in her eyes.
During the Crimean War, the Anglo-French squadron shelled the city and port. The nucleus exploded on the square near the monument and damaged the pedestal with a fragment. After the war, a cast iron patch with a stylized cannonball was installed on the site of the damage.
