Mercedes Benz eCitan 2024 | A Small Electric Van With Big Ideas

It’s not just cars we like to go adventuring in – as you’ve no doubt seen when we head off in a pickup – but vans too, and not too long ago, we had the chance to get behind the wheel of the electric version of the Citan, the eCitan.

Mercedes-Benz has long been a leader in luxury and performance, but they’re also proving their prowess in the EV sector. The eCitan is Mercedes' answer to the increasing demand for compact, electric vans, offering a practical, efficient, and eco-friendly solution for businesses and professionals alike.

It’s designed to offer the same practicality and versatility but with the benefits of zero emissions and electric efficiency. The eCitan comes as part of Mercedes-Benz’s broader strategy to electrify their van lineup, following the success of the eVito and eSprinter.

This compact van is perfect for urban deliveries, tradespeople, and small businesses that need a reliable workhorse that’s also environmentally friendly. Its compact dimensions make it highly manoeuvrable in city environments, while the electric drivetrain ensures it meets all current and future emission standards.

The eCitan is now available in three trims in the UK:
• Base Trim: This is the entry-level trim that offers everything you need in a functional, reliable van. It comes with basic features, such as air conditioning, a multimedia system with a 9.5-inch touchscreen, and safety features like active brake assist and crosswind assist. It’s designed for those who prioritise practicality and efficiency.
• Pro Trim: Adds features such as front fogs and LED lighting in the load area.
• Select Trim: Adds LED headlights with high beam assist, LED front fogs, active park assist and alloy wheels

At the heart of the Mercedes-Benz eCitan is its 45kWh lithium-ion battery, which powers the 90kW electric motor. This battery size places the eCitan among the more efficient electric vans on the market, providing enough power for most urban and regional operations.

This combination of battery and motor offers a smooth and responsive drive, perfect for stop-start city traffic as well as longer hauls when needed. The eCitan also supports DC fast charging, allowing you to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in around 38 minutes using a fast charger.

The eCitan’s range is one of its key selling points, particularly for businesses that operate within urban areas or require light to moderate driving throughout the day. On a full charge, the eCitan has a WLTP-rated range of between 165 and 175 miles, dependent on trim.

This range makes it suitable for delivery services, local tradespeople, and small businesses that don’t need to travel long distances regularly. For those working in urban environments, the eCitan's range is more than sufficient to cover daily operations without needing frequent recharges.

Mercedes-Benz has priced the eCitan competitively within the electric van market. While specific prices can vary depending on the trim and any additional options, the starting price for the Base trim is £32,700 excluding VAT, while the Select trim starts at £36,940.00 – again excluding VAT.

In terms of overall value, the eCitan is positioned to offer a balance between premium quality and the practicality that Mercedes-Benz is known for, making it an attractive option for businesses looking to invest in sustainable transportation without sacrificing performance or brand reputation.

Safety is a major priority for Mercedes-Benz, and the eCitan comes packed with advanced safety features to protect both the driver and cargo. Standard features include:
• Active Brake Assist: Helps prevent collisions by applying the brakes if the vehicle detects a potential impact.
• Lane Keeping Assist: Warns the driver if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane, providing corrective steering when necessary.
• Crosswind Assist: Ensures stability in windy conditions, keeping the van on course even during gusty weather.
• Speed Limit Assist: Alerts drivers to changes in speed limits, helping ensure compliance with traffic laws.

These safety features make the eCitan one of the most secure electric vans on the market, providing peace of mind for businesses and drivers alike.
The Mercedes-Benz eCitan is a strong contender in the electric van market, offering a practical, efficient, and eco-friendly solution for businesses looking to make the switch to electric. With up to a 175 mile range, 45kWh battery and 90kW electric motor, and a starting price of £32,700.00, the eCitan combines the practicality of a compact van with the quality and reputation of Mercedes-Benz.

Whether you’re a small business owner, delivery service, or tradesperson looking to reduce your carbon footprint, the eCitan provides a versatile and premium solution for your transportation needs. With its range of trims, fast charging capabilities, and impressive cargo space, the eCitan is ready to take on the future of electric mobility.

Thank you all, and enjoy!
