Steemit is not what we hoped it was :(

We logged on to find this notice which must be accepted to continue. That's new.

In these rules, we find a lot of references to "inappropriate content" being deleted, problem accounts being banned, and warnings against doing anything "unlawful". We aren't sure if that's always how Steemit has been, but it doesn't matter.

We thought Steemit was cool.

Different than FaceBook and Instagram. Accepting of activists doing peaceful civil disobedience of harmful laws. But no, the message sent today is clear - Steemit will gladly turn us (and our data) over if we're accused of being "unlawful".

Not quite the decentralized haven it seemed. People tout Steemit as "uncensorable" and "permanent", but there's nothing really blockchain about it, other than the upvote system. This is basically just another blog site, with owners, who allow certain content - and censor as needed. Owners which bow to harmful unjust local laws.

And where is the "any day now" update, that will allow better signups and less bugs, first promised LAST summer?

What we thought Steemit was, will come along soon somewhere else. They're probably already working on it! Somewhere the users control and own their content, truly built on blockchain code, unable to be deleted or censored.

To our fans, we offer this photo we took, of a tasty slab of shatter. :)
