Yaaayyy! And....members of the @steemit-uyo community just leveled up. This is indeed a community ...
...heading to the moon.
it's a virus, we are infected, we are happy and we don't want to get healed
You could tell I almost forgot my manners. Dear reader, welcome to my blog. After such exciting and impactful moment with @Eurogee and @DrIgweeu, I shouldn't be excited any less.
Well, I submitted a post to @stach, giving an account on the activities of ...
...the community aheading to the moon"
Among which I mentioned the unveiling and launch of the Steem Accelerator Hub (STACH) in Uyo, Nigeria. This event was spiced up with knowledge-filled people who shared their knowledge about steemit. It was awesome, trust me.
During the course of the event, @eurogee mounted the frontline and after his speech, he offered a free @utopian-io online workshop for the uyo steemians. This was an opportunity that won't have been traded for gold nor silver. We got hold of this opportunity and it came to pass that Steemit-uyo had a webinar with Eurogee of @euro-nation
THE BEGINNING:
As is seen on the e-flier, the webinar was scheduled for 8:00PM, with the Whatsapp messenger as its venue.
By 8:30pm, all members of the group were ready to take off and the speakers were invited in.
As seen above, @drigweeu's first message came at exactly 8:32PM. Following that was the welcome message by @xpressng. The class kicked off shortly after as @eurogee started by discussing the basics of the platform (@utopian-io).
He discussed of 10 mins and didn't fail to make sure everyone was involved in this.
GETTING STARTED BY EUROGEE
@eurogee went on and on and on. He talked about 3 types of contributions which one could make on this platform. But before then...
UTOPIAN-IO AS A PLATFORM THAT REWARDS CONTRIBUTIONS ON OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS:
According to @eurogee,
Utopian.io is the only platform that will reward you for making Open Source contributions with Steem Power and shared SBD....
Apparently, @eurogee's perspective is valid, given that, utopian-io based posts are basically the only #open-source contributions that get rewarded. The utopian-io web page allows steemit users surf for contributions to be made and rewards them upon approval of the contributions, which comes by the upvote of the community's ...
...bot with over 4million Steem power
And of course, I'm only able to put this down because he had simpled his words to aid better and quick assimilation of this. And at this point, everyone on the group had a background knowledge about utopian-io.
OPEN SOURCE? WHAT ARE OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS?
The term open-source, as posited by @eurogee;
In general, open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit. Open source software is usually developed as a public collaboration and made freely available.
From this , One could tell that open-source projects are just as the name goes. A project that is free for contributions from either users or developers, for the purpose of modification.
Having talked about these, @eurogee went further to explain the types of contributions that could be madam on this platform.
Suggestion/Ideas:
Simply put, suggestions are ideas you get during the course of surfing the open source project that could be put into the project and would have a profitable impact.
Bug Hunting:
As the name goes, "bug hunting ". This way, you HUNT DOWN A BUG. If an open-source app or site malfunctions or acts in an unexpected way, it's s bug and should be reported.
Visibility
Steemit rewards contents, utopian rewards contributions. Isn't that enough reason to promote the platform? Now, I have decided to make such post on twitte.com, got over 20,000 reach and engagement. I'm excited! Isn't that worth publishing? This is what visibility is all about. You make such outrageous promotion on any open- source project and get that much reach , minimum 10k and get rewarded.
At this point, @drigweeu took it up from there as he spoke of
Accept/ Reject
He mentioned that utopian-io either accepts or reject a post depending on the qualitu of the post. Thus saying, contributions must be of great value and benefits to the project, if not, it would be considered as trivial.
Blog Post.
this is for ths writers
He posited. After about 3mins of this discussion, i could tell that blog posts on utopian-io are for writers, as utopian rewards exceptional blog posts on open-source projects. And note; it must be in series.
He went further to talk about
Copy writing
and he was of the opinion that
Copy writing is an act of writing contents, either for promotions or advert...
He further urged that any copy write post must be original and of very high quality.
Data Analysis was next
He explained that this was basically for mathematics and data analyst experts, as this category requires a full date analysis of an open source project showing trends, engagement etc. He stressed the use of tools to get data, as well as graphs to show the data provided.
Tutorials were next
He mentioned that this categories involves highly technical skills. It must be of high quality such that upon being shared, there's an impact. It should be like a mystery unveiled.
He suggested that programmers should take advantage of this catergory as programmers and developers always have a thing or two to offer.
Repository
Firstly, the repository of an open-source app is gotten from github.com which is a service hosting platform. THese speakers warned that wrong repositories could make a contribution invalid, as such, when making a contribution, one has to be extremely careful with this.
#TIPS ON GETTING THE REPO
Enter the website or app name in the search box , and it would display a list of repos, copy the link , (i.e https://.....), paste it on a different tap, if it goes straight to the app or website, then this is correct.
Also, you could check the github.com site. Search the project and get it's repo.
As seen above, you could get that much result and you have to go through it and pick the correct repo.
LEARNT ALOT, QUESTIONS?
Yea sure, there were questions from participants:
Thank you for this opportunity sir.
Under the statistics category...
Supposing i carry out a Research on
Effects of computer simulation on students' academic performance.
I give the Research methodology and statistics (like t-test in tabular form) on the result,
Please Can it be approved?
Answer:
We have no statistics category but analysis. Also ask if it's an open source project.
Question:
One more question @Dr Igwe If the post on maybe lets say suggestion is quite short but it hits the message you are passing across. Does the lenght of such post affect the accept/reject category. Like is there any possibility of that post getting rejected.
Answer:
No it won't but to be on the best side, expand. Break the content and expand your info
Let me not bore you with the series of question and answers, but in short,
IT WAS AN AWESOME MOMENT WITH THESE GUYS
We learnt and we are ready for utopian-io.
THE END
Sad but true, the session came to an end. It ended at 10:37pm and the group was left open incase anyone wanted to read up infos passed therein.
