There are some things you should know before thirty, even if you're over the age of thirty, it's best to check and see if you're aware of these things, times are changing and it's easy for the important things to slip out of your way and you may realize them too late, that's why I'm putting together this post. The sooner you come to terms with these things, the sooner you'll be on your way to happiness and success. Let's get started;

  • Life is not about you

It's not all about you, bad things don't happen to you, they just happen, no one is secretly trying to make you miserable, you're not the center of everyone's universe, just your own. Stop thinking about yourself and think about others as well, help them, put their needs before yours, be generous. That doesn't mean you should always take care of others before you take care of yourself, balance them both and you'll have a good life.

  • Things will never satisfy the soul

People who spend money on experiences instead of things are happier. The idea is, things do not bring real happiness, just a short term illusion that looks like it.

  • Read more

By now I hope you understand that reading and hardwork are probably the two biggest differentiators of success, maybe the internet is still attractive, the TV is a form of relaxation, and video games could be fun as well but when it comes to really doing something for yourself, reading is all you've got. Books will help you gain knowledge, will enrich your vocabulary, will stimulate your brain and at the end of the day, you'll feel relaxed and NO, magazines don't count. Find a great book and stay up all night to read it, it's the best way to escape the daily business and stress. Most, if not all of the world's top successful, read a lot. Warren Buffet to this day still read six hundred to a thousand pages everyday.

  • Travel more

You're young, free, you might not have kids, you probably have a stable job and it's the perfect time to travel. You won't get a chance after that; the job will get more stressful, you'll want to have your own family and trust me, you won't have the time and energy to travel. Pack your things and go on a trip, it doesn't matter where, it might be camping, it might be a luxurious island or in the middle of nowhere, just go, enjoy it have fun, embrace other cultures, your twenties and your thirties are the best time when you can enjoy travelling at it's best.

  • Save money

Time means money and waste of time means a lot less money. Start saving money from the moment you're able to pay your rent fully and you still have something left, don't spent it all on clothes and partying, think about your future. As you grow older, you'd probably have bigger spendings, you'd want to go on that trip we I talked about , you'd want to get married, and start a family, but the question is; with what? All that require some money and you won't be able to earn or save it in a couple of months . Each month, put something aside and don't ever touch it or give it to someone you trust to take care of it, if you don't trust yourself. Whatever you do, please, please save some money, it'll be very helpful.

  • Have a healthy Lifestyle

One thing you should know is that by thirty, your body will not get any better, that is, if you don't do anything about it. Metabolism slows with age,certain things about your body will get bigger and probably will go lower, you'll know what I'm talking about. So help your body be in its best shape and consider changing your lifestyle; cut down the fast food, start drinking more water and exercise. Cook better to feel better. I bet you've all seen the good looking celebs that even after they give birth, they look amazing . It's true they might have some extra help from their nutritionist or personal trainer but that doesn't mean you can't do it on your own. Be proud of who you are and don't let your body do whatever it wants just because you're growing older remember age is just a number, you can look better in your thirties than you did in your twenties.

  • It's you who is looking back in the mirror

It might seem a silly thing to say but most of us don't realize we should be proud and happy with who we are. Stop trying to impress everyone and stop comparing yourself to others, of they don't like you, maybe you're better off without them. I'm not saying, act like the best in the world, do whatever you want and get on everyone's nerves, no, that is playing stupid, but be realistic, if you do your things and you care about others as well, then you should be happy with yourself. Of course, not everyone will like you, but that's just life, stop obsessing about that colleague that you think hates you, there probably too busy thinking about themselves and their problems, that why they didn't say hi to you the other day on the street, be proud of who you are and don't change yourself to meet other people's expectations. Be silly, laugh, have fun, and enjoy life.

  • Learn to say no

Refusing the tempting offer to go out drinking and partying with your best friends to spend sometime with your loved ones, doe8make you a bad friend. Saying no when your boss asks you to stay overtime again and do some work would not make you a bad employee. Learning how to prioritize is one of the best things you can do for your self and don't feel guilty about it, it's your life, not anyone else's. Choose love, health and family before anything else, that's what counts at the end of the day. Please remember, when you say yes to something, you're actually saying no to everything else you could have done in that time.

  • Have close friends

Even if you're not so close like you were in college, even if you've not seen each other for a year, make time to call them, to meet them and to talk to them. Close friends are like a second family, and they should count more than money or a career. Of course, don't give up your job to be able to go partying all night, that's not really what friendship is about, you probably know that. When things get harder, friends and family would be the ones always there for you no matter what. Don't give up on that, you need this type of support mechanism in place, if things ever go south. Cherish them, have fun with them, as long as you're blessed to have them around.
