August Peak of Drought, Beware of Karhutla and Drought

Forest and land fires (karhutla) are still a frightening specter during the dry season. To that end, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reminds the people of a number that have been subscribed to the impact of karhutla during the dry season.

Moreover, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that the peak of this year's dry season will occur in August and September.
Head of BNPB Data, Information and Public Relations Center, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said that his side has mapped the areas prone to drought. "In East Java, for example, in Tuban, Bojonegoro, Gresik, and Pacitan," he said yesterday (17/3).

Other areas potentially experiencing drought are Serang District, Karawang, Bekasi, Indramayu, and Cirebon. Then, Brebes, Tegal, Pekalongan, and Semarang. Drought also has the potential to hit Wonogiri, Boyolali, Gunungkidul, and Temanggung.

Sutopo explained that BNPB and regional disaster management agency (BPBD) already have contingency plan to face drought and karhutla during dry season.

Head of Public Relations BMKG Hary Tirto Djatmiko said, some areas of Java is now starting to experience the trend of decreasing rainfall levels.

He said this year's drought was almost the same as last year's drought. Therefore, some areas that will experience drought are also almost the same as last year. Namely, East Java, Central Java, DIJ, NTT, and NTB.
